Final piece

After thoroughly drafting my plans on the layout of the composition, I began to assemble all my objects and stick them to shiny cake boards using hot glue, Staple guns and heavy duty velcro.

Some, Like coffee cups needed less adhesive than wine bottles.

What I liked about this, was as I went through board by board i realised that each individual cake board with the items stuck on top was it's own unique piece of artwork, just like each page in my childhood drawing was it's own unique piece of work that is seen in an entirely different light when separated from it's counterparts.

the process took a few hours, but was surprisingly more quick than I anticipated. this left me lots of time to consider composition as I glued them down.

below is a diagram illustrating the free flowing movement of my assemblage. I placed coffee cups and wine bottles, (highlighted with blue arrows) in a position to show a circuit-like and symettrical structure. the bottles lean in and create an almost circular sense of movement.

this is to indicate the neverending and inevitable circle of addiction that is very difficult to ween oneself off of.

The red arrows show the symmetrical placing of the books. both of the furthest cake boards on the left and right have large text-books placed there, and in the middle three blank sketchbooks, two larger on either side of one smaller are stuck down.

this is in order to lead the eye in circles and could link to my sketchbook drawing of the child in rotten apples, the repeated circular structures of the sketched apples in the background led the eye to go in circles, this matched the round child's head.

the repetition of certain elements, such as the chewing gum pots and symmetrically even sketchbooks causes this same effect, thus supporting the ideology that addiction goes around ceaselessly in circles.

After it was all completed I laid down the cake boards in order, referring constantly to my layout plans, and stood on a stepladder to see how it will look birds-eye view on the wall. I am undoubtedly extremely happy with the end result, the circular boards combined with the round tops of cups, glasses, chewing gum pots, and wine bottles combined really capture the round and infinite essence to define addiction which I was aiming to achieve.
