To mark the beginning of our new A-level course in year 12, we did a small course based on Art foundation.

The class scouted the art block and found a collection of furniture and objects ranging from tea-pots to oven gloves which we piled in the middle of the room. Images of us drawing it are shown above.

After arranging the composition, we opened our new books and took a couple pencils each. on instruction we then proceeded to try a range of different drawing techniques

Linear Drawing

I found my first drawing to be understandably out of practice, and seeing as I had only done digital art since GCSE, it was in some places quite graphic- such as the chair

Continuous line Drawing

I did not remove my pen from the paper and I found this made it easy to get a feel for the compositon.

Blind Continuous line Drawing

We couldn't look at the composition for this drawing and couldn't take the pencil off the paper, the intention was the drawing would be a continuous line. This helped us learn to draw through observation of the subject, instead of staring and meticulously altering our work.

Alternate hand Drawing

Drawing with my right hand was difficult as I wasn't used to holding the pencil in an upright position. It also was good to get out of my comfort zone and try drawing in a different way.

Free hand Drawing

This style of drawing was liberating and helped me see the difference between the different styles. I felt freer because I could shade and use tonal range.

Two pencils taped together Drawing

With two pencils duplicating every mark I made0 I started to think carefully about what I would draw and how I could use each mark to my advantage
