Large oil painting

We stuck together 3 individual one-hour A2 charcoal drawings of our composition. This drawing would form the monochromatic foundation of our large oil colour painting. After having photographed this drawing, we chose a few colours of tissue paper which we then ripped and stuck down to a long sheet of paper with PVA.

We outlined the structure with diluted ultramarine oil paint.
Colour theory proved vital for this painting as we needed to paint on top of the base tissue paper with a complimentary colour in order to get the desired colour. there was a lot of colour mixing, we weren't supposed to use white or black, and instead use deep colours for shadows and brighter for highlights. Furthermore, as we were painting from an entirely black and white drawing- all of the colours depended on imagination. I liked this painting as it was very instinctual and it helped me become closely acquainted with oil paint and colour mixing.
